Battula Shivadhar Reddy, IPS, is a senior Indian Police Service officer of the 1994 batch, hailing from Tool-e-Kalan (Peddatundla) village in Ibrahimpatnam Mandal of Ranga Reddy District, Telangana. Born in Hyderabad, he completed his schooling and higher education in the city, graduating in LL.B. from Osmania University. After briefly practicing as an advocate, he cleared the Civil Services Examination in 1994 and joined the IPS and was allotted to the Andhra Pradesh cadre. Following the bifurcation of the state in 2014, his cadre was reassigned to Telangana.

He currently holds the rank of Director General of Police and serves as the Chief of the Telangana Intelligence Department. Over three decades of service, Sri Shivadhar Reddy, IPS, has held several key assignments at both district and state levels.


Career

Initial Service (1996–1998): Served as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Anakapalli, Narsipatnam, and Chintapalli sub-divisions of Visakhapatnam District. Later, as Additional SP from 1998 to 2000, he worked with the elite Greyhounds and later in Bellampalli, Adilabad District.

Superintendent of Police (2000–2007): Served as SP of Nalgonda, Srikakulam, Nellore, and Guntur districts. He also worked as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in 2004 and as DCP, South Zone, Hyderabad (2007–08). Additionally, he served as SP of the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB). He was deputed to the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) as part of a peacekeeping mission.

Telangana State Formation (2014): Became the first Chief of the Intelligence Department in Telangana in the rank of Inspector General. Later served in the Personnel Wing, Railways & Road Safety after promotion to Additional DGP rank.

Recent Roles: In December 2023, the Congress Government reinstated Sri Shivadhar Reddy, IPS, as Chief of Intelligence in the rank of Additional DGP. Following his promotion in August 2024, he continues as the Chief of Intelligence with the rank of Director General of Police.


Notable Accomplishments

After formation of Telangana state he was appointed as the first chief of Intelligence (2014) and in 2023 year also he was posted as incharge of Intelligence.

Law & Order & Anti-LWE Operations:

As SP of Nalgonda (2000–2002), Sri Shivadhar Reddy, IPS, successfully neutralized the violent activities of the banned CPI (ML) (PW), later CPI (Maoist).

Investigated several high-profile cases and adopted effective preventive policing measures.

Curbing Factional & Social Violence:

Controlled factional violence in Nellore (fishermen conflicts) and in Palnadu, Guntur (political groups) between 2004–2007.

Invoked the Preventive Detention Act to restore peace and used the Prevention of Immoral Traffic Act (PITA) to curb sex trafficking and shutting down lodges.

Crisis Leadership:
In 2007, following the Mecca Masjid bomb blasts and subsequent police firing in which 14 people were killed, the government appointed him as DCP South Zone, Hyderabad.

During that highly sensitive and challenging period, he worked tirelessly day and night, instilling confidence among people of all communities and effectively restoring peace and order.

Traffic & Road Safety:

As CP of Visakhapatnam, Sri Shivadhar Reddy, IPS, launched the “Arrive Alive” road safety campaign, which reduced accidents and improved public awareness.

Implemented CCTV-based hotel security in 2013 to reduce crime.

Major Operations:

Credited with planning the operation that neutralized notorious gangster Nayeem in 2016.

He was deputed to United Nations mission in kosavo (UNMIK) as a part of peace keeping mission of the UNO.

Sri Shivadhar Reddy, IPS, is widely regarded as a no-nonsense, fair, and professional officer, known for his impartiality and commitment. He played a vital role in curbing Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) and dismantling terror modules across states.
