Not Mere Politics: Palla Srinivasa Rao
Employment Generation and Investment Mobilisation Remain Core Priorities of NDA Governments
Amaravati, May 23: Observing that the viral “Cockroach Janata Party” trend on social media ought not to be dismissed merely as a political expression, Telugu Desam Party State president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao on Friday said the phenomenon must also be understood as a reflection of the anxieties and frustrations simmering among the country’s youth.
Addressing the media, Mr. Srinivasa Rao remarked that democratic governments carry the responsibility of responding sensitively to the aspirations and insecurities of young people, particularly at a time when concerns surrounding employment opportunities, competitive examinations, economic pressures, and career uncertainty have become increasingly pronounced.
He asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu have consistently prioritised youth welfare, employment creation, and long-term economic growth. The NDA governments, he said, were pursuing structured and forward-looking policies centred on job generation, Digital India initiatives, start-up ecosystems, manufacturing expansion, industrial development, and the attraction of global investments.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao noted that the emergence of such emotionally charged discourse on social media also warrants introspection from policymakers. He said governments must remain open to recalibrating policies wherever necessary and ensure that the concerns of the younger generation are meaningfully addressed. “The objective of governance is to ensure that young people do not feel abandoned or betrayed, but instead see their aspirations translated into tangible opportunities,” he observed.
Vigilance on National Security Essential
Referring to the increasingly unregulated nature of social media platforms, Mr. Srinivasa Rao cautioned that the possibility of external influence operations or attempts by hostile forces operating beyond the country’s borders could not be entirely ruled out. He said relevant agencies should thoroughly investigate any such dimensions wherever warranted.
At the same time, he underlined that it would be equally inappropriate to brand every criticism or expression of dissent as anti-national. A mature democracy, he remarked, must possess the confidence to distinguish between genuine public sentiment and malicious interference.
Youth Discontent Should Not Become Political Capital
Mr. Srinivasa Rao criticised attempts by certain political parties to appropriate the frustrations of unemployed youth and students for partisan gain. Transforming legitimate concerns relating to jobs, examinations, and opportunities into instruments of political propaganda, he said, would ultimately weaken democratic discourse rather than strengthen it.
He emphasised that governments and political leadership must engage with the emotional realities confronting the younger generation with greater seriousness and accountability.
“Listening to criticism is not a sign of weakness in a democracy; it is the hallmark of mature leadership,” Mr. Srinivasa Rao said. “India’s youth are not working against the nation. They are demanding opportunities, transparency, and responsive governance. The NDA governments remain committed to advancing with sensitivity towards youth aspirations while simultaneously safeguarding national security,” he added.
