Hyderabad, September 11: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced that the new ‘Education Policy’ would focus on providing quality education to the ‘Gen Alpha’ and ‘Gen Beta’ by adopting the best practices in education in the world.
Participating in a short discussion on education in the Assembly today, the Chief Minister welcomed a debate on the proposed Telangana’s education policy in the session. The government will review the members’ suggestions and take appropriate action. The CM emphasized that the new education policy should be formulated in such a way to compete globally by the Telangana students. We have already constituted an Education Commission to formulate a new education policy. The committee led by K Keshava Rao would examine the report submitted by the Education Commission. The Chief Minister sought the suggestions from all members which are being accepted by the committee.
Rolling out the measures taken by the People’s Government to strengthen the education sector , CM Revanth Reddy said that the government’s main aim is to enhance the allocations to education to 15 per cent in the annual budget outlay. While the BRS government allocated ₹19,093 crore to the Education in 2023-24 budget, our government earmarked ₹21,292 crore in the 2024-25 . We increased the outlay to ₹23,108 crore in 2025-26 budget and to ₹26,647 crore in 2026-27 budget. In just three years, the state government increased the education budget by ₹7,554 crore.
The CM pointed out that parents were sending children to private schools as early as 2 years of age. In the government education system, students were joining at five years old and it was the main reason parents preferred private schools to provide English medium education from nursery. The government also introduced pre-primary education in government schools and provided pre-primary education to 64,000 children in the first year. Mid-day meals to both students and teachers, from Nursery up to Class 12 was also introduced. Centralized kitchens were developed to provide high-quality, hygienic breakfasts and meals. Diet and cosmetic charges were also increased which has been pending during the BRS rule in the state.
Stressing that education alone brings a change in everyone’s lives, the Chief Minister noted that the survey conducted by the government revealed that the root cause of social backwardness is not a lack of assets or status, but no access to education. Since he was holding the education portfolio, the student enrollment in government schools has increased by 86,000. “ It is a testament to my performance as the Education Minister”. The CM took strong exception to BJP floor leader Maheshwar Reddy’s comment that there is no full-time Education Minister. As a CM, he himself was overseeing the education wing which signified its utmost importance. During the review of education, the entire administrative system was also involved and helped to implement the important decisions expeditiously.
“ I have a passion for education and I strongly believe the country’s future lies in the classroom. Education transforms destinies”, CM Revanth Reddy said that 10,006 teacher vacancies were filled within just 55 days in the first year of assuming office. The recruitment drive was taken up in a transparent manner. The Chief Minister alleged that the previous BRS government neglected the education sector and filled only 7,857 teacher posts during the 10 year rule . The CM mentioned the controversies surrounding the GO 97 regarding the polytechnic colleges.
CM Revanth Reddy remembered India’s first Prime Minister Nehru’s endeavor towards strengthening education and irrigation sectors. All the educational institutions in the country were built upon the foundations laid by Jawaharlal Nehru. Many of the current universities were also established during the Congress government’s tenure in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh.
