YSRCP’s Remarks Against Home Minister Reflect Deep-Seated Disrespect Towards Women; Gudivada Amarnath Must Tender Unconditional Apology: Palla Srinivasa Rao
Insulting a Dalit woman who rose from the ranks to become Home Minister is morally indefensible
Personal attacks and political opportunism remain the hallmark of YSRCP’s political culture
Visakhapatnam, June 15: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) State President and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao on Monday launched a scathing attack on YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Gudivada Amarnath, condemning his remarks against Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha as “deeply offensive, misogynistic, and unbecoming of democratic discourse.”
Addressing a press conference at the party office in Gajuwaka, Palla said political criticism is an accepted feature of democracy, but personal attacks targeting a woman’s appearance, attire, grooming, or personal choices represent a dangerous decline in political standards.
“Democracy thrives on debate, not degradation,” he remarked, arguing that ridiculing a woman’s appearance or personal preferences reflects a mindset that seeks to undermine women rather than engage with issues of governance and public policy.
Palla asserted that every woman has the unquestionable right to present herself as she chooses, and reducing political debate to comments on personal appearance exposes what he described as the “regressive and discriminatory political culture” nurtured by sections of the opposition.
The TDP leader particularly objected to remarks directed at Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, noting that her political journey—from an ordinary grassroots worker to legislator and now Home Minister—stands as a testament to perseverance, public service, and democratic opportunity.
“At a time when society is encouraging greater participation of women in public life, targeting a woman who has risen through determination and public trust sends the wrong message,” he said.
Palla further noted that Anitha’s rise carries added social significance as a Dalit woman occupying one of the most important positions in the state government. Any attempt to demean her, he argued, amounts not merely to a personal insult but to an affront to women and marginalized communities striving for greater representation in public life.
Demanding immediate corrective action, he called upon Gudivada Amarnath to withdraw his remarks and issue an unconditional apology to Minister Anitha and to women across the state.
“The people of Andhra Pradesh will not tolerate language that demeans women or discourages their participation in politics,” he said.
“Politics Over Tragedy Must Stop”
Turning to the recent industrial accident at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, Palla accused the YSRCP of attempting to derive political mileage from a human tragedy instead of standing with affected workers and their families.
He said moments of grief demand responsibility, compassion, and solidarity—not political point-scoring.
Palla contended that workers had staged prolonged protests over the future of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant during the previous YSRCP administration and questioned what he described as the opposition’s attempt to portray itself as the plant’s protector.
The TDP leader credited the coalition government with securing a major revival package worth thousands of crores of rupees for the public-sector steel maker, arguing that the intervention had restored confidence in the plant’s future.
He noted that a facility that had previously struggled to operate with a single blast furnace is now moving toward full-scale production with all three blast furnaces functioning, signalling renewed industrial momentum and employment prospects.
“Political allegations should not overshadow the larger goal of strengthening industry, safeguarding jobs, and ensuring worker welfare,” he said.
YSRCP’s Campaign Against Mega DSC Recruitment “Misleading and Baseless”
Palla also dismissed criticism of the state’s Mega DSC teacher recruitment drive, accusing the opposition of spreading misinformation despite what he described as one of the most transparent recruitment exercises undertaken in recent years.
He questioned the credibility of leaders who, according to him, failed to conduct a Mega DSC recruitment process during their tenure but are now attempting to cast doubts on a large-scale recruitment initiative implemented by the present government.
According to Palla, the recruitment process was conducted under stringent security and transparency protocols, enabling thousands of qualified candidates to secure employment opportunities.
He further alleged that the YSRCP has adopted a political strategy centred on manufacturing suspicion around every positive development in the state, whether it concerns investment inflows, employment generation, industrial growth, or infrastructure expansion.
Calling upon citizens to reject what he termed a deliberate campaign of misinformation, Palla urged the public to support efforts aimed at strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s reputation as an investment destination and accelerating economic development.
“The state’s progress should unite political stakeholders, not become a casualty of partisan narratives,” he said.
