Hyderabad, July 26: Aiming to make the youth as active partners in the nation building, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has proposed a new slogan: “Jai Jawan – Jai Kisan – Jai Yuva”.

The Chief Minister emphasized the urgent need to bring out the potential leadership qualities of the youth and involve them actively in shaping the nation’s future.

The CM urged the Union Government to bring a constitutional amendment to lower the minimum age limit for contesting Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha elections from 25 to 21 years.

CM Revanth Reddy made key remarks during an interaction with national media representatives in Hyderabad on Sunday. The Chief Minister shared his views on the importance of the role of the youth in laying a strong foundation of the country’s future. The CM stressed that the Youth, who are demonstrating leadership capabilities across various global sectors, should be provided with similar opportunities within the political system.

CM Revanth Reddy expressed serious concern over lack of a strong mechanism in conducting the national-level examinations mainly CBSE, NEET, and NET. The Chief Minister suggested that the union government should take appropriate measures, keeping the interests of students and their families in mind. The CM appealed to the centre to revoke cases booked against students during the protests at Jantar mantar and also provide compensation to the families of NEET students who died by suicide after the paper leak.

CM Revanth Reddy highlighted that today’s youth are already serving as IAS and IPS officers, discharging duties as public representatives in local bodies, and leading world-class organizations at the age of 21.

The Chief Minister asserted that young people, who are showcasing their talent in technical, administrative, and business sectors, deserve adequate representation in legislative bodies as well.

The CM highlighted the voting age was reduced from 21 to 18 years through the 61st Constitutional Amendment and the setting of the minimum age for contesting local body elections at 21 years through the 73rd and 74th Amendments. In the same spirit, the CM proposed the minimum age for contesting Assembly and Lok Sabha elections from 25 to 21 years, and for Legislative Council and Rajya Sabha elections from 30 to 25 years.

CM Revanth Reddy announced that a joint session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council would be held in August. The joint session would hold a comprehensive discussion on reducing the age limit to 21 to contest in Legislative Bodies in the country. The Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that during the session, we will seek the views and opinions of all political parties and adopt a resolution seeking centre for the reduction of the minimum age for contesting elections . The resolution would be sent to the union government.

The Chief Minister asserted that the Central Government should consider the issue of lowering the minimum age for contesting elections alongside the delimitation of constituencies, increase in the number of Parliamentary seats and women’s reservation. Expanding the role of the youth within the democratic system is essential for the country’s future, the CM remarked.
