A Success Story of a Doctor

A Bright Medical Doctor of Hyderabad also a Bright Management Student: An Intriguing Case

(Dr. Shankar Chatterjee)

This is a case of a bright medical doctor of Hyderabad also a bright management student of Hyderabad. Dr Deepak Vuppu MBBS (Gandhi Medical College), M.D (Biochemistry) (Osmania Medical College) is around 36 years old, married and blessed with two daughters, is a resident of Lidbom Villas, (Raj Reddy Valley) Bandla Guda Jagir, Hyderabad, (a gated community). He has achieved laurels as he has been selected in 2023 by the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad, which is the number one management institution in India and 43 number in the world. Deepak has been selected for the Global Executive MBA course, and classes have already been started. It is pertinent to mention that Dr Deepak has 11 years of work experience in healthcare.

He scored 324 out of 340 in Graduate Record Examinations (GRE). It may be mentioned that GRE is Graduate Record Examination, and Educational Testing Service (ETS) conducts it. There are two types of GRE tests – General and Subject tests. The GRE General Test is accepted by many graduates and business schools worldwide and is a standardized computer-based exam with multiple-choice questions. On the other hand, the GRE Subject test is a paper-based test, and its scores can be used by fellowship panels or admissions to supplement your undergraduate records, other qualifications, and recommendation letters (e-gmat.com/blogs/gre). Anyway, Dr Deepak cleared the initial application through essays and GRE scores, followed by 11 rounds of interviews. It is heartening to mention that 66 candidates across the country in various domains were selected after 11 rounds of interviews.

Regarding the Indian School of Business (ISB), a few lines may be mentioned here. The founders, some of the best minds from the corporate and academic worlds, anticipated the leadership needs of the emerging Asian economies. They recognized that the rapidly changing business landscape would require young leaders who not only understand the developing economies but who also present a global perspective. The ISB is committed to creating such leaders through its innovative programmes, outstanding faculty and thought leadership. Funded entirely by private corporations, foundations and individuals from around the world who believe in its vision, the ISB is a not-for-profit organization.

The Indian School of Business gained the unique distinction of receiving accreditation from the Association of MBAs (AMBA), making it the 100th School in the world to achieve the ‘triple crown’ of accreditations from AMBA, EFMD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS), and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Accreditation from AMBA represents the highest standard of achievement in post-graduate business education. Its rigorous assessment criteria ensure that only the highest-caliber programmes which demonstrate the best standards in teaching, curriculum, and student interaction achieve Association of MBAs accreditation (www.isb.edu/en/about-isb.html).

Dr Deepak, who has been selected for the Global Executive MBA course, informed that the candidates selected in 2023 were from various backgrounds, such as business owners from Silicon Valley, bureaucrats (including IPS one officer) and top executives of reputed organizations. The duration of the course is for 15 months, and candidates will be visiting ISB Hyderabad Campus, ISB Mohali Campus (Punjab), London Business School (London) and Wharton Business School (Pennsylvania), the USA. All these are part of the course. Deepak also informed that Israel Ambassador to India Naor Gilon delivered a talk on “Digital Transformation Session-Artificial Intelligence and India-Israel relations”. Further, the candidates had an opportunity to discuss with incubator D Labs (I ventures) at ISB, which helped them to get an idea about the investment in startups in various sectors. I personally know Dr Deepak Vuppu, who is a bright medical doctor, erudite scholar, great human being and down-to-earth person. Wishing him great success in his endeavor.
