ఎట్టకేలకు నేను ‘శివ’ పాత్రను అర్థం చేసుకున్నాను

26 సంవత్సరాల వయసులో, నేను ఎలా ఉన్నానో అలాగే నా స్వభావానికి అనుగుణంగా శివ పాత్రను రాశాను. ఇప్పుడు 62 ఏళ్ల వయసులో, ఆ సినిమా రెండో విడుదలకు సిద్ధమవుతోంది. అందువల్ల ఆ సినిమాని పదేపదే చూస్తూ, శివ వ్యక్తిత్వాన్ని పరిపక్వతతో అర్థం చేసుకుంటున్నాను.
‘శివ’ వ్యక్తిత్వం:
‘శివ’ అనేది అమితమైన ఆత్మాభిమానం ఉన్న వ్యక్తి కథ. తను నమ్మిన సిద్ధాంతమే తనకు ధైర్యం. బెదిరింపులు, బల ప్రదర్శనలకు లొంగడం కంటే చావడానికే సిద్ధంగా ఉంటాడు. అతనికి పరువు ఒక్కటే ధర్మం కాదు, అది తను ఉన్నాననడానికి ఒక చిహ్నం మాత్రమే.
శివ చూడటానికి నిశ్శబ్దంగా కనపడతాడు, భావోద్వేగాలకు లోను కాడు. అతని శక్తి అతని నిశ్శబ్దంలోనే ఉంది, అతని నిశ్శబ్దం అతనికున్న అంతులేని విశ్వాసం నుండి వస్తుంది. శివ పేరు కోసమో లేదా ప్రతీకారం కోసమో పోరాడడు; అతడు అణగదొక్కబడినందుకు పోరాడతాడు.

అతడు చూడటానికి చాలా సామాన్యంగా ఉంటాడు. ఎక్కడా తిరుగుబాటుదారుడి రూపమే ఉండదు. తిరుగుబాటు అనేది అతడిలో అంతర్గతంగా ఉంటుంది. చూడటానికి శాంతంగా ఉంటాడు. కాని అతనిలోని సిద్ధాంతాలతో నిత్యం ఘర్షణ జరుగుతూనే ఉంటుంది. ప్రతిసారి అతడి చెయ్యి దాడి కోసం పైకి లేవదు. అవసరం కోసం మాత్రమే చేతిని ఉపయోగిస్తాడు. హింస అనేది వినాశకారి అని అతనికి తెలుసు. కానీ నిరంకుశత్వాన్ని ఎదుర్కొన్నప్పుడు, అతను దానిని క్రూరులు, దౌర్జన్యం చేసేవారు అర్థం చేసుకునే ఒకే భాషగా చూస్తాడు.
శివకు తనను తాను నియంత్రించుకునే శక్తి ఉంది. నిజమైన బలం ఆగ్రహంలో కాదు, తనను తాను నియంత్రించుకోవడంలోనే ఉందని గట్టిగా నమ్మే వ్యక్తిత్వం శివది. సామాన్యులను బెదిరించేవారికి నిత్యం సింహస్వప్నం. అతని ప్రవర్తన వారిని ఇబ్బంది పెడుతుంది. ఎందుకంటే అతను వారు ఊహించిన విధంగా స్పందించడు. అతను ఎవ్వరినీ బతిమాలడు, బెదిరించడు – అతను వారిని కంటిరెప్పలను కూడా ఆర్పకుండా నిశితంగా, నిశ్శబ్దంగా చూస్తాడు.
అతడి అంతరంగంలో ఆత్మాభిమానాన్ని అత్యున్నత శక్తి రూపంగా సూచిస్తాడు. ఆ విధంగా అతను గాంధేయవాదిగానే అనిపిస్తాడు. తనను ఇతరులు గుర్తించాలనే ఉద్దేశంతో పోరాడటం లేదు; అతను తనను తాను బలహీనుడిగా భావించకుండా ఉండటానికి పోరాడుతాడు.
అదే అతడిని నిత్యమైనవానిగా చేస్తుంది – అతను కేవలం ఒక మనిషి కాదు, అతను ఒక మానసిక స్థితి. భయం, రాజీ పడటం, అవసరాన్ని బట్టి దుర్మార్గుఛిజీ కావడానికి నిరాకరించే వ్యక్తి మనస్సు. అది శివ మనస్తత్వం, శివ లోపల ఒక విపరీత ధోరణి ఉంది. అతడు శాంతిని నమ్మే వ్యక్తి కానీ దాన్ని రక్షించడానికి హింసను వాడాల్సి వస్తుంది. శివ ధైర్యం నిర్భయత్వం నుండి రాదు. ఒక స్పష్టమైన ఆలోచన నుండి∙వస్తుంది. ఏది అవసరమో, ఏది అనవసరమో బాగా తెలిసిన వాడు శివ. భయం అతనికి సంబంధం లేని విషయం. ఒకసారి తాను దేని కోసం జీవించాలో లేదా చనిపోవాలో నిర్ణయించుకున్నాక, మిగతాదంతా అతనికి అప్రస్తుతం అవుతుంది. ఈ స్పష్టత అతడిని పిరికివాళ్ళ నుండి, తొందరపాటు వాళ్ళ నుండి వేరు చేస్తుంది.
అతను ప్రతిఘటనను కోరుకోడు; అతనే ప్రతిఘటన అవుతాడు. అన్యాయం హద్దులు దాటినప్పుడు ఆ హద్దుని రక్తంతో లేదా ప్రతీకారంతో దాటుదాతు. ఆ హద్దు ఒక సిద్ధాంతంతో గీయబడింది. శివ వినయాన్ని చూడటాన్ని భరించలేడు. అతను ప్రజలు గూండాల లేదా రాజకీయ నాయకుల ముందు భయపడటం చూసినప్పుడు, అతనిలో ఏదో ఒక భావన బలపడుతుంది – అది గొప్పతనం వల్ల కాదు, కానీ దానిని మానవత్వానికి ద్రోహంగా భావిస్తాడు. శివలోని నిశ్శబ్దం, శివలోని మౌనం… ఈ రెండూ చేతకాని తనం కాదు.. అవి అతనికి కవచం. అతను మాటలను చాలా పొదుపుగా వాడతాడు. ఎందుకంటే మాటలు, అతని దృష్టిలో వాగ్దానాలతో సమానం. అతను మాట్లాడాల్సి వచ్చినప్పుడే మాట్లాడతాడు, ఆ మాటలో నిజాయితీ ఉంటుంది. ఆ మాటలు చాలా బరువుగా ఉంటాయి. అతని మౌనం ప్రజలకు అసౌకర్యాన్ని కలిగిస్తుంది. ఎందుకంటే అవి ప్రతిఘటనతో పూర్తిగా శాంతిగా ఉన్న వ్యక్తిని బయటపెడతాయి. అతడికి గొంతు పెంచవలసిన అవసరం లేదు. ప్రపంచపు శబ్దం – అవినీతి, బెదిరింపులు, నైతిక క్షీణత – అతని నిశ్చలతను మరింత బలపరుస్తుంది. ఇతరులు అరుస్తున్నప్పుడు, అతను గమనిస్తాడు. ఇతరులు సమర్థించుకుంటున్నప్పుడు… దానిని అతను నిర్ణయిస్తాడు. అందుకే అతనిలోని ఆ నిశ్శబ్దం అణగదొక్కబడటం కాదు, అది తన నియంత్రణలో ఉన్న శక్తి.
శివ హింస
శివకి హింస సహజమైన గుణం కాదు. అవసరమైనప్పుడు మాత్రమే ఆ గుణాన్ని తెచ్చుకుంటాడు. అతను హింసను ఆస్వాదించడు కానీ అవసరమైనప్పుడు మాత్రం ఆ గుణం నుంచి దూరంగా ఉండడు. అతనిలో తర్కగుణం స్పష్టంగా ఉంది. కారణం విఫలమైనప్పుడు పిడికిలి మాట్లాడాలి. అధికారం అవినీతికి గురైనప్పుడు, వ్యవస్థలు విచ్ఛిన్నమైనప్పుడు, హింస అనేది అత్యంత ప్రభావవంతమైన సమాచార రూపంగా మారుతుంది, ఆత్మవిశ్వాసం మాత్రం కోల్పోడు.

After 36 years, i finally understood the character of SHIVA
As a 26 year old , I wrote the character of SHIVA out of instinct and now at 62 as I kept on re watching it to prepare it for it’s re release, I now understood it from maturity
SHIVA’S PERSONA
Shiva is the story of a man who has immense self respect, and his courage comes from the principles he stands for.
He would rather die than bow down to threats and intimidation.
To him, dignity is not a virtue.. it is the hall mark of existence itself. Shiva is not loud, not emotional, and not heroic in the conventional sense. His power lies in his silence, and his silence comes from an unspoken conviction.
Shiva doesn’t fight for glory or revenge; he fights because he refuses to be trampled. His defiance is instinctive, not strategic. When he sees injustice, he reacts not with speeches, but with his stance, and, when pushed, with his fists.
He has no interest in politics, gangs, or power, yet these very forces are drawn to him because power recognizes the man who cannot be frightened.
He’s not a rebel in appearance, but in spirit. His rebellion is internal a constant clash between his calm exterior and the storm of principles inside him. Every time he raises his hand, it’s never out of aggression, but necessity. He knows violence is destructive, but when faced with tyranny, he sees it as the only language oppressors understand.
Shiva is also a man of restraint. He believes that true strength is in control, not fury. His presence unnerves bullies because he doesn’t react the way they expect. He doesn’t plead, doesn’t threaten he just looks at them with an unblinking calm
At his core, Shiva represents the ideal of self-respect as the highest form of power. To that extent he’s almost Gandhian .. He’s not fighting for others to see him as strong; he fights so that he doesn’t see himself as weak.
And that’s what makes him timeless he’s not just a man, he’s a state of mind. The mind of someone who refuses to be corrupted by fear, compromise, or convenience. In a world where everyone bends, Shiva remains unbent. In a society driven by manipulation and submission, Shiva’s very existence becomes a revolution.
SHIVA’S PSYCHOLOGY
At the heart of Shiva lies a paradox , a man who believes in peace but is forced to use violence to protect it.
Shiva’s courage does not come from fearlessness but from clarity. He knows what matters and what doesn’t. Fear is irrelevant to him because once he defines what’s worth living or dying for, everything else becomes irrelevant . This clarity is what separates him from both cowards and hotheads
He doesn’t seek confrontation; he becomes confrontation when injustice crosses his line. And that line isn’t drawn in blood or revenge but it’s drawn in principle. Shiva cannot tolerate the sight of submission. When he sees people cowering before thugs or politicians, something in him hardens not out of superiority, but because he feels it’s a betrayal of human dignity.
SHIVA’S SILENCE
Shiva’s silence is not emptiness — it’s his armour.
He doesn’t waste words because words, to him, are promises. He speaks only when he must, and when he does, it comes with a weight. His silences make people uncomfortable because they reveal a man completely at peace with confrontation.
He doesn’t raise his voice because he doesn’t need to. The world’s noise corruption, threats, moral decay only reinforces his stillness. When others shout, he observes. When others justify, he decides. That quietness is not suppression. it’s basically power under control.
SHIVA’S VIOLENCE
For Shiva, violence is never instinctive. It’s a consequence.He doesn’t enjoy it but he doesn’t shy away from it when needed . His moral logic is clear.. when reason fails, fists must speak. When authority is corrupt and systems are broken, violence becomes a form of highly effective communication an assertion that self respect still exist.
