It was year 2006, I was in class five. As part of my school’s initiative of taking students to meet eminent personalities, I was honored to meet Dr Manmohan Singh in 2006, while he was the chief guest for 91st National Science Congress held in Andhra University Visakhapatnam. I have heard him speaking about “Demonstration Effect” & “Law of Diminishing of Marginal Utilities”. At that juncture, as a fifth grade student I simply noted in the book, but could not register in my mind about the concepts Dr.Singh lectured.
In the later stages, when I joined my Engineering in same Andhra University, there was a subject called Principles of Economic Management(PEM), there my professor explained about the concept of Demonstration Effect” & “Law of Diminishing of Marginal Utilities”. I could able to retrospect the words and visualize the lecture of Mr. Singh from 2006.
Later, while I was doing my fellowship in Bodoland of Assam in 2022, I mailed Dr. Manmohan Singh for an appointment to meet him in Delhi, but I was not granted appointment under the indifferent state of his health due to Covid. But the happier moment for me was, when I received a revert mail from Dr. Singh, former Prime Minister of India.
Later, I met Dr. Singh in the year 2023, although it was a 2-minute talk with him. But the talk for 2 minute was a worth remembering one. Firstly, I was in an awe, that I was speaking to a person who transformed the country with his economic policies moreover he was twice Prime Minister of world’s biggest democracy.
During my travel across country, I heard immense about Mr. Singh from various people such as Sanjaya Baru who closely worked with Dr. Singh, I heard from Mr. Baru when was delivering a talk on P.V. Narasimha Rao Memorial Lecture. Heard numerous anecdotes from Dr. Valleswar, Senior Journalist, CPRO to Dr. YS. Rajasekhar Reddy.
Dr. Manmohan Singh will be remembered as a silent Prime Minister, who was never afraid to speak with press.
The demise of Dr. Singh is a loss of erudite scholar and a towering intellect.
Singh will always be our King….
