NIMS urologists successfully complete 100 kidney transplants in 6 months.
Records are meant to be broken and rewritten. But what if it’s rewritten by the same record holder. That’s the Department of Urology, NIMS.
Known for its high-volume surgical load and state of the art surgical expertise, NIMS has been a go to address for renal transplants since its inception in 1989. The number of surgeries has grown exponentially in the past decade after Senior Professor and HOD Dr. C. Ram Reddy has taken reigns of the Department in 2015.
Dr. C. Ram Reddy along with senior Professor Dr. Rahul Devraj and the Urology team have performed more than 1000 transplants in the last 10 years.
Dr. Ram Reddy expressed happiness and said “We have been performing more than 100 trasnplants each year for the past 10 years. The numbers have grown exponentially in the last 2 years. This year is special because we have crossed the 100th mark within 6 months and we are confident to that we will do many more in the coming days. This puts NIMS amongst the top three institutes of the country where such huge number of transplants are done. The addition of Robotic system has further enabled us to be at the forefront of technological advancemnets and we have successfully completed 4 robotic renal transplants.”
Dr. Rahul Devraj added that the same team that has performed these transplants carries out more than 1000 procedures a month adding to more than 12,000 procedures a year, and that they successfully completed 350+ robotic surgeries in less than 2 years.
All these surgeries were done free of cost by the Telangana State government funded Aarogyasree scheme.
